Throughout the year we will be speaking with each of the official Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association state rodeo queen representatives. This is a great opportunity for everyone to get to know each of these hard working young women that work all year long to represent you and the greatest sport on dirt! Keep in mind as you read these posts, that one of these ladies will be Miss Rodeo America 2016, and we already know that they will have big boots to fill with the phenomenal job Lauren Heaton is already doing as Miss Rodeo America 2015!
The first 2015 state rodeo queen we interviewed for the series is Hanna Heckman, Miss Rodeo Montana. Hanna comes from the PRCA circuit of Montana, meaning that this state has enough rodeos to form its own circuit! Montana has approximately 30 rodeos annually, ensuring that she will have a very busy schedule this year. Hanna was just recently crowned during the Montana Circuit Finals rodeo and when we caught up with her this weekend, this is what she had to say:
“A Big Hello from the Big Sky State! This is Hanna Heckman, the newly crowned Miss Rodeo Montana 2015. The title doesn’t seem real to me yet, as I was only crowned a week ago during our Montana Circuit Finals Rodeo. I have made a few short appearances already but my first debut will be with my Teen Queen, Miranda Minow, at the Cowboy Hall and Wall of Fame Scholarship Banquet. My full sized calendar takes up a whole wall in my kitchen and it is filling up quickly! I am excited to embark on this journey as the ultimate ambassador for a sport I cherish and respect.
During my year, I will be blessed with the opportunity to travel across my state and the country to rodeos and events. I plan to be a bridge between the sponsors, fans and contestants to grow the sport of rodeo. My hope is that new faces will be seen across the nation on rodeo committees, in the arena and in the stands. My roots are deep in this sport and I have competed in every women’s event on every level of rodeo and I believe this will be beneficial to me in reaching my goals.
With my year just starting and a clear plan in mind, I hope to meet some of you along the rodeo road and work together. As they say, ‘If you give a girl a crown, she will take on the world.’ Here’s to the start of a Big year and Big dreams!
