History of the Crown: Miss Rodeo Oklahoma

Posted on June 25, 2021 by Miss Rodeo America

A crown is a mark of honor and 20 young women have been honored to wear this crown upon their hat. In 2000 the Miss Rodeo Oklahoma organization underwent a restructure, and the Wade family graciously donated new Bob Berg Design crowns to each title holder; Miss Rodeo Oklahoma, Miss Rodeo Oklahoma Teen, and Miss Rodeo Oklahoma Princess.

The design is rich with Oklahoma history. Within the state is the shield of an Osage warrior. The shield contains an olive branch and a peace pipe which represent defensive and protective warfare, accompanied by peace and love. The shield is also found in the center of the Oklahoma state flag. The red ruby jewels are to commemorate the “Redman” as the word Oklahoma is derived from Choctaw words “okla” and “humma” combined to represent the  “land of the redman.”

The three feathers hanging from the panhandle are to symbolize the three state title holders, Miss Rodeo Oklahoma, Teen, and Princess, and all three titleholders have buckles with matching designs that they keep to commemorate their year. The Miss crown is set apart from the teen and princess because of the rounded top piece, set just above the state outline.

The crown has been replaced with the Landstroms Black Hills Gold Miss Rodeo America crown one time, by Miss Rodeo America 2015 Lauren Heaton.
